The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: *"Whoever forgets a prayer should perform it as soon as he remembers it; there is no expiation for it except that: {and establish prayer to remember me.} [Surat Tā-ha: 14]"* [Sahih Bukhari 597, Sahih Muslim 684]
This means that when you realize you've missed a Fajr prayer, you should pray it immediately—whether you remember in the morning, afternoon, or evening. The key is not to delay it once you remember. This applies whether you missed it due to forgetfulness, oversleeping, or any other valid reason.
A few practical points to keep in mind:
1. Pray as soon as you remember – Don't wait for the "right time." The moment you recall the missed prayer, that's the time to perform it.
2. You can pray missed prayers after the sun rises – If you wake up after sunrise, you can still make up the Fajr prayer. Some scholars recommend waiting until the sun has risen a bit (about 15-20 minutes) if you wake up right at sunrise, but you can pray it as soon as you remember.
3. Combine with your current prayer – If you remember a missed Fajr while it's time for Dhuhr, pray the missed Fajr first, then pray Dhuhr.
4. Don't despair – Allah's mercy is vast. The Prophet ﷺ also taught us that good deeds erase bad ones. Allah says: *{Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds}* [Sūrat Hūd: 114]. So after making up your prayers, increase in voluntary acts of worship and seek forgiveness.
A helpful tip: To avoid missing Fajr in the future, try to sleep early, set multiple alarms, and ask family members to wake you. You can also use the prayer reminder feature in your Al Muslim Plus app to help you stay consistent.
May Allah accept your prayers and make it easy for you to establish them regularly. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
