Let me explain this beautiful surah to you. Allah begins by telling us that He sent down the Quran during this special night: "We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power" [Quran, Al-Qadr:97:1]. This is the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the Angel Jibreel.
Then Allah asks a rhetorical question to emphasize the greatness of this night: "And what will explain to thee what the night of power is?" [Quran, Al-Qadr:97:2] — as if to say, you cannot fully grasp its immense value with your human mind.
The key verse follows: "The Night of Power is better than a thousand months" [Quran, Al-Qadr:97:3]. This means worshipping Allah on this one night is more rewarding than worshipping Him continuously for over 83 years! That's a lifetime of worship in a single night.
Finally, Allah describes what happens on this night: "Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand" [Quran, Al-Qadr:97:4]. The angels, including Jibreel (the Spirit), descend to earth with Allah's decrees and blessings for the coming year.
