Surah Al-Anbiya 21:80 — translation and meaning

ۖ وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَّكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُم مِّن بَأْسِكُمْ فَهَلْ أَنتُمْ شَاكِرُونَ

وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ

And We taught him
صَنْعَةَ
san'ata
(the) making
لَبُوسٍ
labusin
(of) coats of armor
لَّكُمْ
lakum
for you
لِتُحْصِنَكُم
lituh'sinakum
to protect you
مِّن
min
from
بَأْسِكُمْ
basikum
your battle
فَهَلْ
fahal
Then will
أَنتُمْ
antum
you
شَاكِرُونَ
shakiruna
(be) grateful

Transliteration

Wa 'allamanaahu san'ata laboosil lakum lituhsinakum mim baasikum fahal antum shaakiroon

Translation

And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful?

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

I exclusively taught David, and not Solomon, the skill of crafting armour, so that you could protect yourselves from anyone who tried to attack you with weapons. O people! Will you then show gratitude for this blessing that I bestowed upon you?
