Surah Al-A'raf 7:72 — translation and meaning

ۖ فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنَّا وَقَطَعْنَا دَابِرَ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَمَا كَانُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ

Word by Word

فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ
fa-anjaynahu
So We saved him
وَالَّذِينَ
wa-alladhina
and those
مَعَهُ
ma'ahu
with him
بِرَحْمَةٍ
birahmatin
by Mercy
مِّنَّا
minna
from Us
وَقَطَعْنَا
waqata'na
And We cut off
دَابِرَ
dabira
the roots
الَّذِينَ
alladhina
(of) those who
كَذَّبُوا
kadhabu
denied
بِآيَاتِنَا
biayatina
Our Signs
وَمَا
wama
and not
كَانُوا
kanu
they were
مُؤْمِنِينَ
mu'minina
believers

Transliteration

Fa anjainaahu wallazeena ma'ahoo birahmatim minnaa wa qata'naa daabiral lazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa wa maa kaanoo mu'mineen

Translation

So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We eliminated those who denied Our signs, and they were not [at all] believers.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

So Allah saved Hūd (peace be upon him), and those of the believers who were with him, through a mercy from Him, and He removed and destroyed those who rejected His signs, who did not have faith and deserved their punishment because of their denial.
