Surah Al-A'raf 7:79 — translation and meaning

فَتَوَلَّى عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَاقَوْمِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّي وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْ وَلَكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ النَّاصِحِينَ

وَقَالَ

and he said
يَاقَوْمِ

O my people!
لَقَدْ

Verily
أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ

I have conveyed to you
رِسَالَةَ

رَبِّي
rabbi
(of) my Lord
وَنَصَحْتُ
wanasahtu
and [I] advised
لَكُمْ
lakum
[to] you
وَلَكِن
walakin
but
لَّا

تُحِبُّونَ
tuhibbuna
you like
النَّاصِحِينَ
al-nasihina
the advisers

Transliteration

Fa tawalla 'anhum wa qaala yaa qawmi laqad ablaghtukum Risaalata Rabbee wa nasahtu lakum wa laakil laa tuhibboonan naasiheen

Translation

And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Ṣāliḥ (peace be upon him) turned away from his people, having given up all hope for them. He said: 'O people, I had delivered what Allah had instructed me to deliver to you, and had advised you well, encouraging and warning you, but you were a people who did not have any love for sincere advisers who wanted to lead you to goodness and distance you from evil.
