Surah Al-Baqara 2:64 — translation and meaning

ۖ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُم مِّن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ فَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَكُنتُم مِّنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

surely you would have been
مِّنَ
mina
of
الْخَاسِرِينَ
al-khasirina
the losers

Transliteration

Summa tawallaitum mim ba'di zaalika falawlaa fadlul laahi 'alaikum wa rahmatuhoo lakuntum minal khaasireen

Translation

Then you turned away after that. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, you would have been among the losers.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Yet after making a firm promise, you broke the contract and rebelled. If it had not been for Allah’s favour in His tolerance towards you, and His mercy, accepting when you asked for forgiveness, then you would be among the losers because of your turning away and rebellion.
