Surah Al-Ma'ida 5:22 — translation and meaning

قَالُوا يَامُوسَى إِنَّ فِيهَا قَوْمًا جَبَّارِينَ وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدْخُلَهَا حَتَّى يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا فَإِن يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا فَإِنَّا دَاخِلُونَ

Transliteration

Qaaloo yaa Moosaaa innaa feehaa qwman jabbaareena wa innaa lan nadkhulahaa hattaa yakhrujoo minhaa fa innaa daakhiloon

Translation

They said, "O Moses, indeed within it is a people of tyrannical strength, and indeed, we will never enter it until they leave it; but if they leave it, then we will enter."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

His people said to him, ‘O Moses, in the Holy Land there is a powerful and mighty people and this is preventing us from entering it. We will not enter it as long as these people are there, because we do not have the ability to fight them. If they leave, we will go in’.
