Surah Al-Ma'ida 5:62 — translation and meaning
المائدة · Verse 62 / 120 · Page 118
ۚ وَتَرَى كَثِيرًا مِّنْهُمْ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَأَكْلِهِمُ السُّحْتَ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

وَتَرَى
watara
And you see
كَثِيرًا
kathiran
many
مِّنْهُمْ
min'hum
of them
يُسَارِعُونَ
yusari'una
hastening
فِي
fi
into
الْإِثْمِ
al-ith'mi
[the] sin
وَالْعُدْوَانِ
wal-'ud'wani
and [the] transgression
وَأَكْلِهِمُ
wa-aklihimu
and eating
السُّحْتَ
al-suh'ta
the forbidden
لَبِئْسَ
labi'sa
Surely evil
مَا
ma
(is) what
كَانُوا
kanu
they were
يَعْمَلُونَ
ya'maluna
doing
Transliteration
Wa taraa kaseeram minhum yusaari'oona fil ismi wal'udwaani wa aklihimus suht; labi'sa maa kaanoo ya'maloon
Translation
And you see many of them hastening into sin and aggression and the devouring of [what is] unlawful. How wretched is what they have been doing.
Verse interpretation (Tafsir)
You, O Messenger, see many of the Jews and hypocrites rushing towards committing sins, such as lying, oppression and consuming that which is unlawful. How evil is their behaviour!
