ۚ كَانُوا لَا يَتَنَاهَوْنَ عَن مُّنكَرٍ فَعَلُوهُ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ

Transliteration

Kaanoo laa yatanaahawna 'am munkarin fa'aluhoo; labi'sa maa kaanoo yafa'loon

Translation

They used not to prevent one another from wrongdoing that they did. How wretched was that which they were doing.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

They did not forbid the sinner from amongst them from committing sin. Instead, the sinners used to commit sins and evil openly because no one would disapprove of it. How evil was the action of not forbidding the evil that they used to do!
