Surah Al-Ma'ida 5:84 — translation and meaning

المائدة · Verse 84 / 120 · Page 122

وَمَا لَنَا لَا نُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا جَاءَنَا مِنَ الْحَقِّ وَنَطْمَعُ أَن يُدْخِلَنَا رَبُّنَا مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الصَّالِحِينَ

And we hope

al-qawmi
the people
الصَّالِحِينَ
al-salihina
the righteous

Transliteration

Wa maa lanaa laa nu'minu billaahi wa maa jaaa'anaa minal haqqi wa natma'u ai yudkhilanaa Rabbunaa ma'al qawmis saaliheen

Translation

And why should we not believe in Allah and what has come to us of the truth? And we aspire that our Lord will admit us [to Paradise] with the righteous people."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

What prevents us from having faith in Allah and the truth that He has revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him)? We hope that we will enter Paradise together with the prophets and their followers who obeyed Allah and feared His punishment.
