لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Law nashaaa'u ja'alnaahu ujaajan falaw laa tashkuroon

Translation

If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

If I wanted to make that water extremely bitter, such that it would be of no use for drinking nor for irrigation, I would have done so. Will you then not be grateful to Me for sending it down as palatable and a mercy for you?
