Surah Ali 'Imran 3:123 — translation and meaning

آل عمران · Verse 123 / 200 · Page 66

ۖ وَلَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِبَدْرٍ وَأَنتُمْ أَذِلَّةٌ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

فَاتَّقُوا
fa-ittaqu
So fear
اللَّهَ

لَعَلَّكُمْ
la'allakum
so that you may
تَشْكُرُونَ
tashkuruna
(be) grateful

Transliteration

Wa laqad nasarakumul laahu bi-Badrinw wa antum azillatun fattaqul laaha la'allakum tashkuroon

Translation

And already had Allah given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Allah gave you victory over the idolaters in the Battle of Badr despite your small numbers and resources. Therefore, be Mindful so that you may be thankful for the blessings He has given you.
