Surah Ali 'Imran 3:126 — translation and meaning

آل عمران · Verse 126 / 200 · Page 66

ۗ وَمَا جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشْرَى لَكُمْ وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ قُلُوبُكُم بِهِ وَمَا النَّصْرُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ

Word by Word

ۗ
وَمَا
wama
And not
جَعَلَهُ
ja'alahu
made it
اللَّهُ
al-lahu
Allah
إِلَّا
illa
except
بُشْرَى
bush'ra
(as) good news
لَكُمْ
lakum
for you
وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ
walitatma-inna
and to reassure
قُلُوبُكُم
qulubukum
your hearts
بِهِ
bihi
with it
وَمَا
wama
And (there is) no
النَّصْرُ
al-nasru
[the] victory
إِلَّا
illa
except
مِنْ
min
from
عِندِ
indi
[near]
اللَّهِ
al-lahi
Allah
الْعَزِيزِ
al-'azizi
the All-Mighty
الْحَكِيمِ
al-hakimi
the All-Wise

Transliteration

Wa maa ja'alahul laahu illaa bushraa lakum wa litatma'inna quloobukum bih' wa man-nasru illaa min 'indilllaahil 'Azeezil Hakeem

Translation

And Allah made it not except as [a sign of] good tidings for you and to reassure your hearts thereby. And victory is not except from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise -

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Allah did not tell you of this reinforcement with angels, except as news to please and reassure your hearts. For in fact, victory does not just come through material means, but comes only from Allah the Mighty, Who no one has any authority over, Wise in His decree and sacred laws.
