Surah Ali 'Imran 3:129 — translation and meaning

آل عمران · Verse 129 / 200 · Page 66

ۚ ۚ وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ يَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

He wills
وَيُعَذِّبُ

and punishes

man

يَشَاءُ
yashau
He wills
وَاللَّهُ
wal-lahu
And Allah
غَفُورٌ
ghafurun
(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌ
rahimun
Most Merciful

Transliteration

Wa lilaahi maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil-ard; yaghfiru limai-yashaaa'u wa yu'azzibu mai-yashaaa'; wallaahu Ghafoorur Raheem

Translation

And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth, in its creation and arrangement. He forgives the disobedience of whomever He wills of His servants through His Mercy, and punishes whom He wills through His Justice. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful to those who repent to Him.
