Surah Ali 'Imran 3:188 — translation and meaning
آل عمران · Verse 188 / 200 · Page 75
ۖ لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أَتَوا وَّيُحِبُّونَ أَن يُحْمَدُوا بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةٍ مِّنَ الْعَذَابِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Word by Word
Transliteration
Laa tahsabannal lazeena yafrahoona bimaaa ataw wa yuhibbona ai yuhmadoo bimaa lam yaf'aloo falaa tahsabunnahum bimafaazatim minal 'azaabi wa lahum 'azaabun aleem
Translation
And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment.
Verse interpretation (Tafsir)
Do not think, O Prophet, that those who rejoice in the shameful actions they have committed, and who love people to praise them for good things which they did not do, are secure and safe from the punishment. Rather, Hell is their place, and they will have a painful punishment.
