وَتَفَقَّدَ الطَّيْرَ فَقَالَ مَا لِيَ لَا أَرَى الْهُدْهُدَ أَمْ كَانَ مِنَ الْغَائِبِينَ

Transliteration

Wa tafaqqadat taira faqaala maa liya laaa aral hud hud, am kaana minal ghaaa'ibeen

Translation

And he took attendance of the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe - or is he among the absent?

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

And Solomon took attendance of the birds but did not see the hoopoe, so he said: “What is with me that I do not see the hoopoe? Has something stopped me seeing it or is it from the absentees?”
