Surah An-Nur 24:20 — translation and meaning

وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Word by Word

وَلَوْلَا
walawla
And if not
فَضْلُ
fadlu
(for the) Grace of Allah
اللَّهِ
al-lahi
(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْ
alaykum
upon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُ
warahmatuhu
and His Mercy
وَأَنَّ
wa-anna
And that
اللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
رَءُوفٌ
raufun
(is) Full of Kindness
رَّحِيمٌ
rahimun
Most Merciful

Transliteration

Wa law laa fadlul laahi 'alaikum wa rahmatuhoo wa annal laaha Ra'oofur Raheem

Translation

And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Kind and Merciful.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Had it not been for Allah’s grace upon you, O you who fell into the slander, and His mercy on You, and had it not been that Allah is compassionate and merciful to you, He would have punished you quickly.
