وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Wa yaqooloona a'innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa'irim majnoon

Translation

And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

And they would say, justifying their disbelief: “Should we leave the worship of our idols because of the words of a mad poet?” intending through this statement of theirs: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
