Surah Ghafir 40:9 — translation and meaning

غافر · Verse 9 / 85 · Page 468

ۚ ۚ وَقِهِمُ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَمَن تَقِ السَّيِّئَاتِ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمْتَهُ وَذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ

Word by Word

And protect them
السَّيِّئَاتِ
al-sayiati
(from) the evils
وَمَن
waman
And whoever
تَقِ
taqi
you protect
السَّيِّئَاتِ
al-sayiati
(from) the evils
يَوْمَئِذٍ
yawma-idhin
(that) Day
فَقَدْ
faqad
then verily
رَحِمْتَهُ
rahim'tahu
You bestowed Mercy on him
وَذَلِكَ
wadhalika
And that
هُوَ
huwa
[it]
الْفَوْزُ
al-fawzu
(is) the success
الْعَظِيمُ
al-'azimu
the great

Transliteration

Wa qihimus saiyi-aat; wa man taqis saiyi-aati Yawma'izin faqad rahimtah; wa zaalika huwal fawzul 'azeem

Translation

And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

And save them from their bad actions, so do not punish them as a result. Whomever You protect from punishment for his bad actions, then You have had mercy on him. This mercy by entry into Paradise is the great success which no success can compare with”.
