Surah Ibrahim 14:33 — translation and meaning

ۖ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ دَائِبَيْنِ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ

الشَّمْسَ

the sun
وَالْقَمَرَ
wal-qamara
and the moon
دَائِبَيْنِ
daibayni
both constantly pursuing their courses
وَسَخَّرَ
wasakhara
and subjected
لَكُمُ
lakumu
for you
اللَّيْلَ
al-layla
the night
وَالنَّهَارَ
wal-nahara
and the day

Transliteration

Wa sakhkhara lakumush shamsa walqamara daaa'ibaini wa sakhkhara lakumul laila wannahaar

Translation

And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, continuous [in orbit], and subjected for you the night and the day.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Allah subjugated the sun and the moon to continuously orbit. He subjugated the day and the night to alternate, the night for your sleep and rest and the day for your activity and work.
