Surah Ibrahim 14:7 — translation and meaning

ۖ وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ

وَإِذْ
wa-idh
And when
تَأَذَّنَ
ta-adhana
proclaimed
رَبُّكُمْ
rabbukum
your Lord
لَئِن
la-in
If
شَكَرْتُمْ
shakartum
you are thankful
لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ
la-azidannakum
surely I will increase you
وَلَئِن
wala-in
but if
كَفَرْتُمْ
kafartum
you are ungrateful
إِنَّ
inna
indeed
عَذَابِي
adhabi
My punishment
لَشَدِيدٌ
lashadidun
(is) surely severe

Transliteration

Wa iz ta azzana Rabbukum la'in shakartum la azeedannakum wa la'in kafartum inn'azaabee lashadeed

Translation

And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.' "

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Moses said to them: Remember when your Lord clearly announced to you: If you are grateful to Allah for the above-mentioned favours that He has blessed you with, then He will give you more from His favour and grace. But, if you deny His favours to you and do not show gratitude for them, His punishment is severe for those who deny His favours and are not grateful for them.
