ۚ ۚ ۚ يَسْأَلُكَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ كِتَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ فَقَدْ سَأَلُوا مُوسَى أَكْبَرَ مِن ذَلِكَ فَقَالُوا أَرِنَا اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ بِظُلْمِهِمْ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذُوا الْعِجْلَ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَاتُ فَعَفَوْنَا عَن ذَلِكَ وَآتَيْنَا مُوسَى سُلْطَانًا مُّبِينًا

they (had) asked

أَكْبَرَ
akbara
greater

than
ذَلِكَ
dhalika
that
فَقَالُوا
faqalu
for they said
أَرِنَا
arina
Show us
اللَّهَ
al-laha
Allah
جَهْرَةً
jahratan
manifestly
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ
fa-akhadhathumu
so struck them
الصَّاعِقَةُ
al-sa'iqatu
the thunderbolt
بِظُلْمِهِمْ
bizul'mihim
for their wrongdoing
ثُمَّ
thumma
Then
اتَّخَذُوا
ittakhadhu
they took
الْعِجْلَ
al-'ij'la
the calf (for worship)
مِن
min
from
بَعْدِ
ba'di
after
مَا
ma
[what]
جَاءَتْهُمُ
jaathumu
came to them
الْبَيِّنَاتُ
al-bayinatu
the clear proofs
فَعَفَوْنَا
fa'afawna
then We forgave them
عَن
an

ذَلِكَ
dhalika
that
وَآتَيْنَا
waatayna
And We gave
مُوسَى
musa
Musa
سُلْطَانًا
sul'tanan
an authority
مُّبِينًا
mubinan
