Here is what the surah teaches us, verse by verse:
The Quran was revealed on this blessed night. Allah says He sent down the Quran during Laylat al-Qadr [Coran, Al-Qadr:1]. This is the night in Ramadan when the first revelation came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
It is a night of immense value. Allah asks rhetorically, "And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is?" [Coran, Al-Qadr:2] — a way of showing how great and beyond our full comprehension this night truly is.
It is better than a thousand months. The surah declares:
> لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
> "The Night of Power is better than a thousand months." [Coran, Al-Qadr:3]
This means that worship performed on this single night outweighs the reward of roughly 83 years of worship — a lifetime for most people.
The angels descend with every decree. On this night, the angels and the Spirit (Jibreel, peace be upon him) descend by the permission of their Lord for every matter [Coran, Al-Qadr:4]. It is a night filled with peace and divine decree until the break of dawn.
A practical tip: Laylat al-Qadr is to be sought in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd nights. And you can find the well-known dua for this night — "اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي" ("O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me") — in the Invocations section of your app.
