106 Hadith
The Prophetic biography and Islamic history teach us lessons from past generations. These hadiths recount the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and major events.
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I was asked: "What did the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) usually do at home?" I replied: "He was a human being like any other; he would clean his garment, milk his ewe, and serve himself."
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was sent as a Messenger of Allah at the age of forty. Then he stayed in Makkah for thirteen years receiving the divine revelation. Afterwards, he was commanded to emigrate (to Madīnah where he lived) for ten years, and he died at the age of sixty-three.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The last glance I had of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was when he uncovered the curtain while the people were in rows behind Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu Bakr wanted to step back, but he gestured to them to stay as they were and let the curtain drop. He died at the end of that day, and that was Monday.
‘Ā'ishah reported: I do not covet someone to have an easy death, after seeing the difficult death of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) died, the people said: "Where is he to be buried?" Abu Bakr said: "In the place where he died."
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Abu Bakr entered upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) after his death. He put his mouth between his eyes, put his hands on his temples, and said: "O my Prophet, O my close friend, O my bosom friend."
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: On the day the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered Madīnah, everything therein became illuminated. Then on the day he passed away, everything therein became dark. We had not even shaken the dust off our hands after burying the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and we already began to feel the change in our hearts.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) left no dinar, dirham, sheep, or camels, and he did not bequeath anything.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was healthy, he used to say: "No prophet dies until he is shown his place in Paradise and is then given the choice." "No prophet dies until he is shown his place in Paradise and is then given the choice."When he was sick, while his head was resting on my thigh, he fell unconscious. Then he came back to consciousness and fixed his eyes on the ceiling of the house and said: "O Allah, the highest Companion." I said (to myself): "So, he is not going to choose us." I then realized that it was what he used to tell us when he was healthy. The last words he spoke were: "O Allah, the highest Companion."
‘Urwah ibn Az-Zubayr reported: I asked ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr about the worst thing the polytheists did to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "I saw ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt coming to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) while he was praying. ‘Uqbah wrapped his garment around the Prophet's neck and strangled him therewith severely. Abu Bakr came and pulled ‘Uqbah away from the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and said: '{Do you kill a man [merely] because he says: 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord?} [Sūrat Ghāfir: 28]'"
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I never felt jealous of any of the Prophet's wives except for Khadījah although I did not (have the privilege to) see her. She further added that whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) slaughters a sheep, he says: "Send some of it to the companions of Khadījah." She said: "But one day I annoyed him and said: (It is) Khadījah (only that you mention often)!" Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon her) said: "My love of her has been planted in my heart (by Allah)."
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) did not take a second wife until Khadījah died.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "I know it when you are pleased with me or angry with me." I said: "Whence do you know that?" He said: "When you are pleased with me, you say: 'No, by the Lord of Muhammad,' but when you are angry with me, you say: 'No, by the Lord of Ibrahīm.'" Thereupon I said: "Yes, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah; I only forsake your name."
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent a detachment to Najd, and I went with the troops. We seized camels and sheep as spoils of war. Our shares amounted to twelve camels per fighter and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) gave an extra camel to each of us.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was presented to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of Uhud. I was fourteen years old, and so he did not grant me permission (to join the fight). Then, I was presented to him on the Day of Al-Khandaq, and I was fifteen years old, and he granted me permission.
Al-Barā’ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: "I have never seen anyone with shoulder-length hair and wearing a red garment more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He had shoulder-length hair and broad shoulders and was neither tall nor short."
‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) preferred beginning with the right side when wearing his sandals, combing his hair, purifying himself, and in all of his affairs.
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger's right hand was for his purification and eating, and his left hand was for cleansing after relieving himself and (handling) repulsive things. Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used his right hand for eating, drinking, and getting dressed and used his left hand for things otherwise.
‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers, (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I have never seen the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) laughing so heartily to the extent of seeing his uvulae; rather, he would only smile.
Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was more bashful than a virgin in her boudoir. Whenever he saw something he disliked, we could perceive that on his face.
