Surah Al-Anbiya 21:88 — translation and meaning

ۚ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ وَكَذَلِكَ نُنجِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Word by Word

ۚ
فَاسْتَجَبْنَا
fa-is'tajabna
So We responded
لَهُ
lahu
to him
وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ
wanajjaynahu
and We saved him
مِنَ
mina
from
الْغَمِّ
al-ghami
the distress
وَكَذَلِكَ
wakadhalika
And thus
نُنجِي
nunji
We save
الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
al-mu'minina
the believers

Transliteration

Fastajabnaa lahoo wa najjainaahu minal ghamm; wa kazaalika nunjil mu'mineen

Translation

So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

So I accepted his call and saved him from that severe distress by taking him out from all the darknesses including from the belly of the Whale. Just like I saved Jonah from this distress of his, I also save the believers when they fall into distress and call out to Me for help.
