Surah Al-A'raf 7:130 — translation and meaning

وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِالسِّنِينَ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly
أَخَذْنَا

We seized
آلَ

(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَ
fir'awna
(of) Firaun
بِالسِّنِينَ
bil-sinina
with years (of famine)
وَنَقْصٍ
wanaqsin
and a deficit
مِّنَ
mina
of
الثَّمَرَاتِ
al-thamarati
[the] fruits
لَعَلَّهُمْ
la'allahum
so that they may
يَذَّكَّرُونَ
yadhakkaruna
receive admonition

Transliteration

Wa laqad akhaznaaa Aala Fir'awna bis sineena wa naqsim minas samaraati la'allahum yazzakkaroon

Translation

And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

And indeed I gave the people of Pharaoh a number of years of drought and famine, testing them with a shortage of fruits and crops, so that they might reflect and realise that this was a punishment from Allah because of their disbelief, and so they might repent to Him.
