ۖ وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَاتِ مَتَاعٌ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ حَقًّا عَلَى الْمُتَّقِينَ

وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَاتِ

And for the divorced women
مَتَاعٌ
mata'un
(is) a provision
بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
bil-ma'rufi
in a fair manner
حَقًّا
haqqan

عَلَى
ala
upon
الْمُتَّقِينَ
al-mutaqina
the righteous
Transliteration
Wa lilmutallaqaati mataa'um bilma'roofi haqqan 'alal muttaqeen
Translation
And for divorced women is a provision according to what is acceptable - a duty upon the righteous.
Verse interpretation (Tafsir)
Divorced women should be gifted something of clothing, money etc. This is to make-up for their emotional suffering because of the divorce. Such provision must be in keeping with the financial position of the husband; and it is a duty on those who are mindful of Allah by fulfilling His instructions and avoiding His prohibitions.
