Surah Al-Baqara 2:72 — translation and meaning

ۖ وَإِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْسًا فَادَّارَأْتُمْ فِيهَا وَاللَّهُ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ

a man
فَادَّارَأْتُمْ
fa-iddaratum
then you disputed
فِيهَا
fiha
concerning it
وَاللَّهُ
wal-lahu
but Allah
مُخْرِجٌ
mukh'rijun
(is) the One Who brought forth
مَّا
ma
what
كُنتُمْ
kuntum
you were
تَكْتُمُونَ
taktumuna
concealing

Transliteration

Wa iz qataltum nafsan faddaara'tum feehaa wallaahu mukrijum maa kuntum taktumoon

Translation

And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Allah reminds the Israelites about when they killed one of their own. They accused each other of it, each rejecting the accusation of having killed him, and accusing someone else, until they fought. But Allah revealed what they were hiding about the murder of the innocent person.
