Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:34 — translation and meaning

وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَاسِرُونَ

Word by Word

وَلَئِنْ
wala-in
And surely if
أَطَعْتُم
ata'tum
you obey
بَشَرًا
basharan
a man
مِّثْلَكُمْ
mith'lakum
like you
إِنَّكُمْ
innakum
indeed you
إِذًا
idhan
then
لَّخَاسِرُونَ
lakhasiruna
surely (will be) losers

Transliteration

Wa la'in at'atum basharam mislakum innakum izal lakhaasiroon

Translation

And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

“And if you were to follow a human just like you, you would indeed have been deceived into leaving aside your deities and following one who has no virtue over you.”
