Surah Al-Qasas 28:79 — translation and meaning

ۖ فَخَرَجَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فِي زِينَتِهِ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا يَالَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَا أُوتِيَ قَارُونُ إِنَّهُ لَذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ

Transliteration

Fakharaja 'alaa qawmihee fee zeenatih; qaalal lazeena yureedoonal hayaatad dunyaa yaalaita lanaa misla maaa ootiya Qaaroonu innahoo lazoo hazzin 'azeem

Translation

So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qarun. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Qarun came out in his adornment, showing off his wealth and status. Those amongst Qarun’s companions who were desirous of the adornment of the worldly life said: “If only we were given worldly adornment like Qarun has been given. Indeed he has been given a great share of everything!”.
