Surah Ali 'Imran 3:104 — translation and meaning

آل عمران · Verse 104 / 200 · Page 63

ۚ وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

وَلْتَكُن
waltakun
And let there be
مِّنكُمْ
minkum
among you
أُمَّةٌ
ummatun
[a] people
يَدْعُونَ
yad'una
inviting
إِلَى
ila
to
الْخَيْرِ
al-khayri
the good
وَيَأْمُرُونَ
wayamuruna
[and] enjoining
بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
bil-ma'rufi
the right
وَيَنْهَوْنَ
wayanhawna
and forbidding
عَنِ
ani
from
الْمُنكَرِ
al-munkari
the wrong
وَأُولَئِكَ
wa-ulaika
and those
هُمُ
humu
they
الْمُفْلِحُونَ
al-muf'lihuna
(are) the successful ones

Transliteration

Waltakum minkum ummatuny yad'oona ilal khairi wa yaamuroona bilma 'roofi wa yanhawna 'anil munkar; wa ulaaa'ika humul muflihoon

Translation

And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Let there be from you, O believers, a group who calls to all that is good and loved by Allah, instructing people to do what is right from the sacred law and from what you know to be good and just; and forbidding what is wrong, which is prohibited by the sacred law and which you know to be wrong and unjust. The people who do this will have complete success in this world and the Afterlife.
