Surah Ali 'Imran 3:162 — translation and meaning

آل عمران · Verse 162 / 200 · Page 71

ۚ أَفَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ رِضْوَانَ اللَّهِ كَمَن بَاءَ بِسَخَطٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَمَأْوَاهُ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

on (himself) wrath
مِّنَ
mina

اللَّهِ
al-lahi

وَمَأْوَاهُ
wamawahu
and his abode
جَهَنَّمُ
jahannamu
(is) hell
وَبِئْسَ
wabi'sa
and wretched
الْمَصِيرُ
al-masiru
(is) the destination

Transliteration

Afamanit taba'a Ridwaanal laahi kamam baaa'a bisakhatim minal laahi wa maawaahu Jahannam; wa bi'sal maseer

Translation

So is one who pursues the pleasure of Allah like one who brings upon himself the anger of Allah and whose refuge is Hell? And wretched is the destination.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Before Allah, someone who has faith and does good actions that please Allah is not the same as someone who disbelieves and does wrong, earning Allah’s anger and Hell as their resting place. What an awful resting place and destination Hell is!
