Surah Ali 'Imran 3:42 — translation and meaning

وَإِذْ قَالَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ يَامَرْيَمُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَاكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَاصْطَفَاكِ عَلَى نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِينَ

الْمَلَائِكَةُ
al-malaikatu

يَامَرْيَمُ
yamaryamu
O Maryam!
إِنَّ

Indeed
اللَّهَ

اصْطَفَاكِ
is'tafaki
(has) chosen you
وَطَهَّرَكِ
watahharaki
and purified you
وَاصْطَفَاكِ
wa-is'tafaki
and chosen you
عَلَى
ala
over
نِسَاءِ
nisai
(the) women
الْعَالَمِينَ
al-'alamina
(of) the worlds

Transliteration

Wa iz qaalatil malaaa'ikatu yaa Ya Maryamu innal laahas tafaaki wa tahharaki wastafaaki 'alaa nisaaa'il 'aalameen

Translation

And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Remember, O Messenger, when the angels said to Mary (peace be upon her): Allah has chosen you because of the praiseworthy qualities you have. He has purified you from all defects, and chosen you over all the other women of your time.
