Surah Az-Zumar 39:65 — translation and meaning

الزمر · Verse 65 / 75 · Page 465

وَلَقَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكَ لَئِنْ أَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ وَلَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

Word by Word

وَلَقَدْ
walaqad
And verily
أُوحِيَ
uhiya
it has been revealed
إِلَيْكَ
ilayka
to you
وَإِلَى
wa-ila
and to
الَّذِينَ
alladhina
those who
مِن
min
(were) before you
قَبْلِكَ
qablika
(were) before you
لَئِنْ
la-in
if
أَشْرَكْتَ
ashrakta
you associate (with Allah)
لَيَحْبَطَنَّ
layahbatanna
surely, will become worthless
عَمَلُكَ
amaluka
your deeds
وَلَتَكُونَنَّ
walatakunanna
and you will surely be
مِنَ
mina
among
الْخَاسِرِينَ
al-khasirina
the losers

Transliteration

Wa laqad oohiya ilaika wa ilal lazeena min qablika la in ashrakta la yahbatanna 'amalu ka wa latakoonanna minal khaasireen

Translation

And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Allah had revealed to you, O Messenger, and to the messengers before you: If you worship others together with Allah the reward of your good deeds will be void and you will be of the losers in the world due to the loss of your religion and in the Hereafter due to the punishment.
