Surah Ta-Ha 20:127 — translation and meaning

ۚ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِن بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَى

Word by Word

وَكَذَلِكَ
wakadhalika
And thus
نَجْزِي
najzi
We recompense
مَنْ
man
(he) who
أَسْرَفَ
asrafa
transgresses
وَلَمْ
walam
and not
يُؤْمِن
yu'min
believes
بِآيَاتِ
biayati
in (the) Signs
رَبِّهِ
rabbihi
(of) his Lord
وَلَعَذَابُ
wala'adhabu
And surely (the) punishment
الْآخِرَةِ
al-akhirati
(of) the Hereafter
أَشَدُّ
ashaddu
(is) more severe
وَأَبْقَى
wa-abqa
and more lasting

Transliteration

Wa kazaalika najzee man asrafa wa lam yu'mim bi Aayaati Rabbih; wa la'azaabul Aakhirati ashaddu wa abqaa

Translation

And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

And this is the kind of reward I give to the one engrossed in unlawful desires and who turns away from believing in the clear proofs from his Lord. And the punishment of Allah in the Hearafter is even more horrible, severe, and lasting, than the life they will have in the world and in the transition.
