The Ihram for Umrah follows the same procedure as for Hajj. The pilgrim performs ghusl, wears the prescribed garments, and makes the intention (niyyah) specifically for Umrah at the Miqat point. The pilgrim then begins reciting the Talbiyah continuously until reaching the Kaaba. The same prohibitions apply: no cutting hair or nails, no perfume, no hunting, and no marital relations.

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً

Transliteration

Labbayk Allahumma 'Umratan

Translation

Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah.

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

Transliteration

Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la sharika laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak

Translation

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise and blessings are Yours, and all sovereignty, You have no partner.

Practical Tips

  • 1If traveling by air, enter Ihram before the plane passes the Miqat.
  • 2Residents of Makkah enter Ihram from Masjid Aisha (Tan'eem) for Umrah.
  • 3Make your intention clear: "Labbayk Allahumma 'Umratan."
  • 4Pray two raka'at before making your niyyah at the Miqat.
