Surah Al-A'raf 7:93 — translation and meaning

ۖ فَتَوَلَّى عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَاقَوْمِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْ فَكَيْفَ آسَى عَلَى قَوْمٍ كَافِرِينَ

fatawalla
So he turned away
عَنْهُمْ
anhum
from them
وَقَالَ
waqala
and said
يَاقَوْمِ
yaqawmi
O my people!
لَقَدْ
laqad
Verily
أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ
ablaghtukum
I (have) conveyed to you
رِسَالَاتِ
risalati
(the) Messages
رَبِّي
rabbi
(of) my Lord
وَنَصَحْتُ
wanasahtu
and advised
لَكُمْ
lakum
[to] you
فَكَيْفَ
fakayfa
So how could
آسَى
asa
I grieve
عَلَى
ala
for
قَوْمٍ
qawmin
a people
كَافِرِينَ
kafirina
(who are) disbelievers

Transliteration

Fatawalla 'anhum wa qaala yaa qawmi laqad ablaghtukum Risaalaati Rabbee wa nasahtu lakum fakaifa aasaa'alaa qawmin kaafireen

Translation

And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the messages of my Lord and advised you, so how could I grieve for a disbelieving people?"

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Then their prophet Shu‘ayb (peace be upon him) turned from them when they were destroyed saying: 'O people! Indeed I had delivered what my Lord had instructed me to deliver to you, and I had given you good advice; but you had not taken my advice, nor followed my guidance, so how then can I grieve for a people who disbelieved in Allah and insisted on disbelief?'
