Surah Al-Furqan 25:53 — translation and meaning

الفرقان · Verse 53 / 77 · Page 364

وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ هَذَا عَذْبٌ فُرَاتٌ وَهَذَا مِلْحٌ أُجَاجٌ وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخًا وَحِجْرًا مَّحْجُورًا

الْبَحْرَيْنِ

and He has made
بَيْنَهُمَا
baynahuma
between them
بَرْزَخًا
barzakhan
a barrier
وَحِجْرًا
wahij'ran
and a partition
مَّحْجُورًا
mahjuran
forbidden

Transliteration

Wa Huwal lazee marajal bahraini haazaa 'azbun furaatunw wa haazaa milhun ujaaj; wa ja'ala bainahumaa barzakhanw wa hijram mahjooraa

Translation

And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

It is Allah, may He be glorified, who merged the water of the two bodies of flowing water. He mixed the sweet and the salty, and put a barrier and dividing line between them that prevents them from intermingling.
