Surah Al-Isra 17:52 — translation and meaning

يَوْمَ يَدْعُوكُمْ فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ بِحَمْدِهِ وَتَظُنُّونَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Word by Word

يَوْمَ

يَدْعُوكُمْ
yad'ukum
He will call you
فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ
fatastajibuna
and you will respond
بِحَمْدِهِ
bihamdihi
with His Praise
وَتَظُنُّونَ
watazunnuna
and you will think
إِن

not
لَّبِثْتُمْ
labith'tum
you had remained
إِلَّا
illa
except
قَلِيلًا
qalilan
a little (while)

Transliteration

Yawma yad'ookum fatastajeeboona bihamdihee wa tazunnoona il labistum illaa qaleela

Translation

On the Day He will call you and you will respond with praise of Him and think that you had not remained [in the world] except for a little."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

Allah will restore you on the day He shall call you towards the plain of resurrection. You will then respond to Him, complying with His command and praising Him, and you will think you had not stayed in the grave, except for a while.
