Surah Al-Isra 17:76 — translation and meaning

الإسراء · Verse 76 / 111 · Page 290

ۖ وَإِن كَادُوا لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَا وَإِذًا لَّا يَلْبَثُونَ خِلَافَكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

وَإِن

And indeed
كَادُوا
kadu
they were about
لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ
layastafizzunaka
(to) scare you
مِنَ
mina
from
الْأَرْضِ
al-ardi
the land
لِيُخْرِجُوكَ
liyukh'rijuka
that they evict you
مِنْهَا
min'ha
from it
وَإِذًا
wa-idhan
But then
لَّا
la
not
يَلْبَثُونَ
yalbathuna
they (would) have stayed
خِلَافَكَ
khilafaka
after you
إِلَّا
illa
except
قَلِيلًا
qalilan
a little

Transliteration

Wa in kaadoo la yastafizzoonaka minal ardi liyukhri jooka minhaa wa izal laa yalbasoona khilaafaka illaa qaleelaa

Translation

And indeed, they were about to drive you from the land to evict you therefrom. And then [when they do], they will not remain [there] after you, except for a little.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

And the disbelievers were close to troubling you, due to their enmity towards you, to exile you from Makkah. However, Allah stopped them from exiling you until you yourself migrated on the command of your Lord. And had they exiled you, they would not have remained after exiling you except for a short while.
