Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:41 — translation and meaning

المؤمنون · Verse 41 / 118 · Page 344

ۚ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُثَاءً فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Word by Word

ۚ
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ
fa-akhadhathumu
So seized them
الصَّيْحَةُ
al-sayhatu
the awful cry
بِالْحَقِّ
bil-haqi
in truth
فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ
faja'alnahum
and We made them
غُثَاءً
ghuthaan
(as) rubbish of dead leaves
فَبُعْدًا
fabu'dan
So away
لِّلْقَوْمِ
lil'qawmi
with the people
الظَّالِمِينَ
al-zalimina
the wrongdoers

Transliteration

Fa akhazat humus saihatu bilhaqqi faja'alnaahum ghusaaa'aa; fabu;dal lilqaw miz zaalimeen

Translation

So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

So a severe scream, accompanied by a severe wind, took them by surprise, due to their deserving the punishment owing to their stubbornness. I destroyed them, leaving them like the froth of the flood. Woe be to the transgressing nation!
