Surah An-Najm 53:28 — translation and meaning

ۖ ۖ وَمَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا

Transliteration

Wa maa lahum bihee min 'ilmin iny yattabi'oona illaz zanna wa innaz zanna laa yughnee minal haqqi shai'aa

Translation

And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

In giving them female names they have no knowledge to base this on. They merely follow speculation. Speculation is of no value against the truth, to take its place.
