Surah As-Sajda 32:21 — translation and meaning
السجدة · Verse 21 / 30 · Page 417
وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَدْنَى دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَكْبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
Word by Word
وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم
walanudhiqannahum
And surely We will let them taste
مِّنَ
mina
of
الْعَذَابِ
al-'adhabi
the punishment
الْأَدْنَى
al-adna
the nearer
دُونَ
duna
before
الْعَذَابِ
al-'adhabi
the punishment
الْأَكْبَرِ
al-akbari
the greater
لَعَلَّهُمْ
la'allahum
so that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ
yarji'una
return
Transliteration
Wa lanuzeeqan nahum minal 'azaabil ladnaa doonal 'azaabil akbari la'allahum yarji'oon
Translation
And we will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will repent.
Verse interpretation (Tafsir)
I will definitely make these disbelievers who left the obedience of their Lord and do not repent, suffer trials and afflictions in the worldly life, for perhaps due to those worldly afflictions, they will repent to Allah.
