Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:49 — translation and meaning

وَقَالُوا يَاأَيُّهَ السَّاحِرُ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهْتَدُونَ

[the] magician!
ادْعُ

Invoke
لَنَا
lana
for us
رَبَّكَ
rabbaka
your Lord
بِمَا
bima
by what
عَهِدَ
ahida
He has made covenant
عِندَكَ
indaka
with you
إِنَّنَا
innana
Indeed we
لَمُهْتَدُونَ
lamuh'taduna
(will) surely be guided

Transliteration

Wa qaaloo yaaa ayyuhas saahirud'u lanaa Rabbaka bimaa 'ahida 'indaka innanaa lamuhtadoon

Translation

And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided."

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

So when some of the punishment came upon them, they said to Moses (peace be upon him), “O sorcerer! Pray to your Lord for us asking Him to remove this punishment just as He said He would if we believed. If it is removed from us, we will be guided to the truth.”
