Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:54 — translation and meaning

ۚ فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ

So he bluffed

فَأَطَاعُوهُ

and they obeyed him
إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed they

قَوْمًا
qawman
a people
فَاسِقِينَ
fasiqina
defiantly disobedient

Transliteration

Fastakhaffa qawmahoo fa ataa'ooh; innahum kaanoo qawman faasiqeen

Translation

So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allah].

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

So Pharaoh duped his people and they followed him in deviance. Indeed, they were a nation that came away from the obedience of Allah.
