Surah Maryam 19:23 — translation and meaning

فَأَجَاءَهَا الْمَخَاضُ إِلَى جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يَالَيْتَنِي مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَذَا وَكُنتُ نَسْيًا مَّنسِيًّا

O! I wish

وَكُنتُ

and I was
نَسْيًا
nasyan
(in) oblivion
مَّنسِيًّا
mansiyyan
forgotten
Transliteration
Fa ajaaa 'ahal makhaadu ilaa jiz'in nakhlati qaalat yaa laitanee mittu qabla haazaa wa kuntu nasyam mansiyyaa
Translation
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten."
Verse interpretation (Tafsir)
And the pangs of childbirth struck her and made her take refuge by the trunk of a date tree. Mary said: “If only I had died before this day and I was something not even mentioned, so that bad is not thought of me”.
