Surah Maryam 19:26 — translation and meaning

ۖ فَكُلِي وَاشْرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيْنًا فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ أَحَدًا فَقُولِي إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ صَوْمًا فَلَنْ أُكَلِّمَ الْيَوْمَ إِنسِيًّا

Word by Word

ۖ
فَكُلِي
fakuli
So eat
وَاشْرَبِي
wa-ish'rabi
and drink
وَقَرِّي
waqarri
and cool
عَيْنًا
aynan
(your) eyes
فَإِمَّا
fa-imma
And if
تَرَيِنَّ
tarayinna
you see
مِنَ
mina
from
الْبَشَرِ
al-bashari
human being
أَحَدًا
ahadan
anyone
فَقُولِي
faquli
then say
إِنِّي
inni
Indeed I
نَذَرْتُ
nadhartu
[I] have vowed
لِلرَّحْمَنِ
lilrrahmani
to the Most Gracious
صَوْمًا
sawman
a fast
فَلَنْ
falan
so not
أُكَلِّمَ
ukallima
I will speak
الْيَوْمَ
al-yawma
today
إِنسِيًّا
insiyyan
(to any) human being

Transliteration

Fakulee washrabee wa qarree 'ainaa; fa immaa tarayinnna minal bashari ahadan faqooleee innee nazartu lir Rahmaani sawman falan ukallimal yawma insiyyaa

Translation

So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.' "

Verse interpretation (Tafsir)

So eat of the ripe dates, drink of the water, and be pleased with your child and do not grieve. And if you see any person who asks you regarding the child, say to him: ‘I have bound myself to silence for my Lord’s sake, so I will not speak to any person today’”.
