The Day of Arafat (Yawm al-Arafat) is the most important pillar of Hajj. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Hajj is Arafat." Pilgrims stand on the plain of Arafat from after sunrise until sunset, devoting the entire day to supplication, repentance, and worship. Dhuhr and Asr prayers are combined and shortened. This is the day when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and frees more people from Hellfire than on any other day.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir

Translation

There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things.

  • 1This is THE most important day of Hajj — dedicate every moment to dua and worship.
  • 2Make sure you are within the boundaries of Arafat, not outside.
  • 3Bring a list of duas prepared in advance.
  • 4Stay hydrated and use an umbrella for shade.
