HajjMuzdalifah, between Arafat and MinaNight of the 9th into the 10th of Dhul Hijjah

After sunset on the Day of Arafat, pilgrims proceed to Muzdalifah where they combine Maghrib and Isha prayers. They spend the night under the open sky, sleeping and resting. Pilgrims collect 49 to 70 pebbles (chickpea-sized) for the stoning ritual at Jamarat in the coming days. After praying Fajr, they supplicate facing the Qiblah until just before sunrise, then depart for Mina.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah

Practical Tips

  • 1Collect pebbles slightly larger than chickpea size — you will need 49 minimum (7 per day for stoning).
  • 2Elderly, women, and the weak may leave Muzdalifah after midnight.
  • 3Combine Maghrib and Isha prayers upon arrival (Isha shortened to 2 raka'at).
  • 4Rest well — the next days are physically demanding.
