Sa'i involves walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa, commemorating Hajar's (wife of Prophet Ibrahim) desperate search for water for her infant son Ismail. The pilgrim starts at Safa and ends at Marwa. Upon ascending Safa, the pilgrim faces the Kaaba, raises their hands, and makes dua. Men walk briskly (jog) between the two green-lit pillars. This act of devotion remembers Allah's mercy in providing the well of Zamzam.
Innas-Safa wal-Marwata min sha'a'irillah, abda'u bima bada'allahu bih
Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah. I begin with what Allah began with (said at the start of Sa'i at Safa).
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion, His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. There is no god but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, gave victory to His servant, and defeated the confederates alone (recited on Safa and Marwa).
